Wednesday Evening Courses 2012 – 6:15pm – 7:30pm
For 2012, we’ve created three “tracks” to help guide you in choosing your class (you can choose a track and stay on it, or you can shift from track to track as you choose classes):
Track 1
Isaiah, a DVD study by Dr. Mickey Efird. An in-depth look at the prophecies of Isaiah, the historical contexts of the teachings and an unpacking of the call of what it looks like to be the chosen people of God. No homework required. This course will run the full Winter/Spring term, until May 16th. Facilitated by Ron Mears. Starts January 4.
Track 2
Change the World; Recovering the Message and Mission of Jesus, a DVD study by Michael Slaughter, lead pastor of Ginghamsburg UMC in OH. Slaughter will challenge us, the church, to reconnect with the true message and mission of Jesus: to bring good news to the poor, release to the captives, and freedom to the oppressed. 4 weeks; no homework required. Facilitated by Rev. Gerry Nelson. Starts January 4.
Not a Fan - A Study for Lent, a DVD study. Are you a follower of Jesus? You may indeed be a passionate, fully devoted follower of Jesus. Or, you may be just a fan who admires Jesus but isn't ready to let him cramp your style. Some people don't know what they've said yes to and other people don't realize what they've said no to. Jesus is ready to clearly define the relationship he wants with his followers. 6 weeks, beginning February 22; no homework required. Facilitated by Rev. Gerry Nelson. Starts February 22.
Track 3
Finances: Upside Living in a Downside Economy, a DVD study by Michael Slaughter. Great for New Year’s Resolutions. “During difficult economic times, it's tough not to focus on getting by with less and waiting for the next bit of bad news. But, as Christians, how do we to respond to what's happening on Wall Street? With clarity and a servant's heart, Slaughter addresses vital topics such as financial and spiritual investments, personal motivation and God's will, money and marriage, and determining priorities.” 4 weeks – the month of January; no homework required. Facilitated by Al Miller. Starts January 4.
Parenting: Having a New Kid By Friday – How to Change Your Child’s Attitude, Behavior and Character in 5 Days, a DVD study by Dr. Kevin Leman, renown child psychologist. With his signature wit and encouragement, Dr. Leman offers hope and real, practical, strategies for regaining control and becoming the parents they always wanted to be. 6 weeks, beginning February 1; Facilitated by Deb Happel, Children’s Coordinator of HUMC. Starts February 1.
Marriage: Your Time-Starved Marriage – How to Stay Connected at the Speed of Life, a DVD study by Les and Leslie Parrott. A time for couples to evaluate time styles and how to recoup lost time together and recreate a healthy relationship. 6 weeks; Facilitator TBD. Starts April 18.
Childcare and children’s activities are available for children of all ages every Wednesday evening.
Classes open to everyone – invite friends and neighbors.
