Stop Hunger Now: Haymount’s Lenten Project 2012
For our Lenten project this year, we will participate in the Stop Hunger Now project. Stop Hunger Now is a meal packaging program that uses volunteers to package high-protein, dehydrated meals (fortified rice/soy meal) that are used in crisis situations, school lunch programs, and orphanages around the world. Each package contains six meals and costs twenty-five cents per package to cover the cost of the raw materials. When the packages are received by their designated recipients, they are prepared by simply mixing with boiling water, which both ensures the water's purity, and creates a hot meal.
All ages can participate in packaging meals and it will only take a few hours of your time. Individuals, as well as groups, such as Sunday School classes, families and clubs, are urged to participate.
We need at least 80 volunteers to package the target goal of 20,000 meals!
We will be packaging meals the evening of Wednesday, April 4th.
We will begin the evening with a special meal from 5pm – 6pm in the New Life Center, and then set to work immediately following. There will be no Wednesday Evening Fellowship that evening, so even though this is dinner on a Wednesday evening, permanent reservations for WEF will not be honored.
If you are packaging and want to eat dinner prior to the event, you must make reservations for the meal.
The cost of all meals is $5.00 per person and any monies received by the kitchen that are in excess of the cost of preparing the meals, will go to the Stop Hunger Now project.
