What People are Saying about New Beginnings: “I have felt at home at our church from day one, and am continually blessed daily. The New Beginnings class has been a tremendous area of encouragement and blessing, and I counted it as one of my weekly highlights” – Ken Haight, 9/29/08.
Wednesday evenings from 6:15 to 7:30pm
Next class begins April 14, 2010
Who should participate?
Persons who desire to become members of HUMC through Baptism,
Profession or Reaffirmation of Faith, or Letter of Transfer; members
who have not yet experienced New Beginnings; and any existing
member ready for a “new beginning”.
What can I expect to learn?
- Authentic Discipleship - What it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ at HUMC. The heart and habits of authentic discipleship. HUMC’s mission and core values. A Wesleyan understanding of grace, Baptism, and Holy Communion.
- Passionate Worship - Corporate worship (who, why, and how we worship). Tools and techniques for personal daily devotions (in other words, private worship). The importance and variety of spiritual disciplines.
- Faithful Stewardship - What God gives you and wants from you. Includes financial giving and serving and faith-sharing. Biblical principles of stewardship, how to identify what you have, and stewardship opportunities at HUMC.
- Spiritual Formation - How to learn, grow, and be shaped into Christ-likeness for a life-time through Bible study and Biblical fellowship. HUMC’s philosophy on formation and our many opportunities for both.
When and where it meets (and for how long):
New Beginnings meets for 4-weeks on Wednesdays starting September 2nd from 6:15 to 7:30pm in the Old Fellowship Hall. New Members will be received in worship on September 27th at both the 9:50 New Sanctuary and 11am Traditional worship services.
Class format
A variety of teaching methods will be employed including multi-media presentations, lectures, small-group discussions, take-home reading assignments, and other activities. Opportunities to meet HUMC leaders (laity and clergy) will be provided. All of this in a casual, nurturing, non-threatening learning environment.
Weekly Meal & Fellowship
Participants in New Beginnings are invited to enjoy dinner together each week from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm in Haymount’s New Life Center. Come experience Haymount’s Wednesday Evening Fellowship (WEF), a weekly congregational-wide fellowship meal. This is a great time to get to know others in your class and members of Haymount church. Special tables will be set aside for class participants. So come in time to eat before class. It’s tasty, convenient, affordable, and fun.
