Adult Class Offerings (Wednesdays, 6:15-7:30pm):
Acts of the Apostles – Relive the emotion and wonder of Jesus' followers from Christ's resurrection to that Pentecost when all were filled with the Holy Spirit and passionate about leading others to Jesus. Learn about the formation of the New Testament church, see Peter and Paul grow into leadership, and discover how the Biblical story is also our story. A video study with Dr. Mickey Efird, recognized as both an Old Testament and New Testament Scholar. Dr. Efird knows both Hebrew and Greek, and has authored 14 books and published more than 60 articles and papers. Preparation for class includes pre-reading of the Scriptures for the coming lesson. Meeting Wednesday evenings, Sept. 1-Dec. 15 from 6:00-7:30 in Room 220. Cost: $12 for student book. Pre-registration is preferred. Taught by Ron Mears.
This is Christianity - A look at what we believe – Who is God? What is my relationship to God? Who is Jesus? Why did Jesus come? What is salvation? Sin? Who is the Holy Spirit? What is the Church? What is heaven like? What does it mean to be a Christian? What is the kingdom of God? Come discover the faith we claim as Christians through the book by the same name by Maxie Dunham, President of Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky. Class meets Wednesday evenings, 6:15-7:30 pm in Room 209 from Sept. 1-Oct. 6. Cost: $12 for the book.
A Case for Christ – A seasoned journalist chases down the biggest story in history: Is there credible evidence that Jesus of Nazareth really is the Son of God? Retracing his own spiritual journey from atheism to faith, Lee Strobel, former legal editor of the Chicago Tribune, cross-examines a dozen experts with doctorates from schools like Cambridge, Princeton, and Brandeis who are recognized authorities in their own fields. Reclaim your understanding of Jesus as the Son of God through reading and group discussion of this book. Class meets Wednesday evenings from 6:15-7:30 pm in Room 215 from October 13-November 17. Taught by Peter VanBorkulo. Cost: $12 for the book.
Disciple I Bible study – A 34 week study that will take you through the entire Bible as a whole and wrestle with the understanding of our relationship with our God through Scriptures. Daily homework is required. Meets Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 1st, from 6:15-7:30 pm in Room 213. The first day will be an orientation, so if you would like to come check it out, please come. Cost: $34 for student manual. Pre-registration is preferred. Taught by Dorothy Funkhouser.
The Hole in Our Gospel – What does God expect of us? Is our faith just about going to church, studying the Bible and avoiding the most serious sins – or does God expect more? Have we embraced the whole gospel or a gospel with a hole in it? Come join this group as your read through the book together and discover your authentic calling as a Christian. Meeting Wednesday evenings, 6:15-7:30 pm in Room 217, beginning September 1-Nov. 17. Cost: $11. Taught by Brenda Booth.
God’s Word in Art – Hear of the history of the use of stained glass windows in worship spaces throughout history and then spend time discovering the mystery and awe of our God through study of the windows in the HUMC sanctuary. Class meets Wednesday evenings from 6:15-7:30 in the Commons Room from October 13-Nov. 17. Taught by Rev. Dr. Milton Gilbert.
Three Simple Rules – A Wesleyan Way of Living



This simple but challenging look at three commands of John Wesley’s General Rules, "do no harm, do good, stay in love with God," calls us to mutual respect, unity, and a deeper relationship with God. Come to a deeper understanding of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ in the world today as you read together this small book by Bishop Reuben Jobs. Meets Wednesday evenings from 6:15-7:30 in Room 209. Teacher TBD. Cost: $5 for the book.

Uses scripture to teach the doctrines of the church and how they shape what we believe.

Disciple IV Bible Study, Under the Tree of Life Sundays, 5:30-7:30pm –
Covers the writings portion of the Tanakh, the Hebrew Scriptures, and the Gospel of John and the Book of Revelation from the New Testament. 32 lessons; Disciple I Bible Study is a prerequisite. Begins September 12, 2010. Taught by Dorothy Funkhouser.
