Adult Suday School Classes

The Pilgrimage Class

The Pilgrimage Class gathers weekly using the Adult Bible Study, with leadership rotating from week to week. The Pilgrimage class fosters a sense of community that embraces the diversity of opinions, ages, and races that are Haymount. The class supports causes that are both local and global. The class gathers and creates a community of belonging and confidentiality that sustains each member on their journey.

The Word Class

The Word Sunday School is a diverse group of adults; single and married, 30's up to seniors! Our format is usually a Bible or book study that includes a video and group discussion. Currently we are reading and watching Matt Rawle's study of Les Miserables. Some other books we have enjoyed include Adam Hamilton's, Luke, The Walk and The Lord's Prayer. We have also done studies by AJ Levine, Micky Effird and Max Lucado. Before Lent we had fun with the Andy Griffith, Mayberry Bible Study! Our class is mission-minded, and we actively participate in the work of the Mission Committee, to include garage sales, refuge homes, and work teams. We also support the many mission areas our class members hold dear such as Smile Train, Curamericas, Fayetteville Urban Ministries and Operation Inasmuch. Join us in room 224 and check us out!

True Faith Class

The True Faith class (formed from the merger of the long-standing True North and Faithseekers Sunday school classes) uses Bible scripture, modern teaching materials, and personal experiences to build a Christian covenant between its members. Studies are intended to reinforce our Christian beliefs, yet also challenge our understanding of the scriptures. Lessons usually consist of a video presentation, followed by group discussion in a receptive and supportive environment. All adults welcome. Meets in room 217. We have also completed studies from the following authors: Adam Hamilton, Amy-Jill Levine, Bob Goff, Matt Rawle, Con Campbell, Rasool Berry, and Michael Card.

Barrington Bible Class

The adult Bible class, known as the Barrington Bible Class, held it’s first meeting on December 9, 1945. Carl Barrington Sr., who with his family, had joined the church in April, 1946, and was selected to teach this class. The Barrington Bible Class membership is made up of in class attendees and a large group of those who are unable to attend in person. Those unable to attend in person, join us on the phone. Our class works together to help each other and those in our community who are in need. We work together to glorify God.

Magnolia Class

The Magnolias are volunteers. We have served on many UMCOR work teams in our state and beyond. We have traveled to other countries to see where our mission dollars go and how they change lives. At Christmas we adopt children from the local elementary school to provide gifts. We also host a covered dish meal each year to raise funds for the Care Clinic which provides medical care to the uninsured in our community.

Young Adult Sunday School Class

Our “Young Adult Group” has evolved over the years! It began in 2015 with a group meeting in each other’s homes every Sunday evening. For a couple of years, we ventured out to Huske Hardware and enjoyed “Beer and Bible” with others from our community. As our young adult families began to grow, it became more and more difficult to meet on Sunday evening. In 2022 we started our “Young Adult” Sunday School class. We meet each Sunday from 10:00-10:45 and have completed studies from Kate Bowler, Bob Goff, Mark Mittelberg and others. We have studied books from the Bible, watched videos from pastors preaching on various topics, read many books and studied devotions electronically. We have learned a lot about our faith and so much about each other. How wonderful to have a group and space to share our joys and struggles each week!

The Bergland Bible Class

The Bergland Bible Class has recently studied the Book of Romans, and has since explored through video streaming the life of Paul and Peter. We are now focusing on the last 24 hours of Jesus' life, which was started during the Season of Lent. As for projects, the class is setting up an endowment that supports all people of all ages in their journey through formalized Christian spiritual formation opportunities. The class has faithfully financially supported those in need over the course of its inception in 1985.
